Spanish Tasting

Just did a quick and dirty Spanish tasting. One bottle stood out.

Bodegas Pirineos Marbore Somontano 2002
Only rated 84 points by Wine Spectator but I thought it was fantastic. Fruit forward, easy to drink. Surprisingly fragrant nose, bright cherry and berry fruit flavors with a decent easy finish. A little oaky, nothing terribly complex. Unfortunately, it's $30+. Would've been a fantastic buy if it were anywhere near the price point of the other stuff we were tasting.

Rioja Vega Crianza 2003 was also not bad.

In the big scheme of things, I do tend to pick items that would be a little more welcoming to the standard American palate. Typical Spanish wines simply are too Old World for the fruit loving, oak hugging, wham-bam in your face palates that are undoubtedly overwhelmingly out there.
